ABOUT US

The International Science & Technology Cooperation Center for Urban Alternative Water Resources Development (Int’l AWR Center) has been established for gathering researchers within and outside China to carry out research work on alternative water resources utilization for sustainable urban development through academic and technological exchanges, case studies and engineering projects, and promoting the transfer of new concepts and technologies to countries and regions to meet their development goals. In July 2014, an agreement was signed between International Water Association (IWA) and Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT) for the establishment of the Int’l AWR Center. The Int’l AWR Center was approved by the Science and Technology Department of Shaanxi Province as a provincial center in March 2015, and then approved by the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) as a national center in October, 2015. It is now the first international cooperative platform of this kind, under the support of Chinese government.

The Int’l AWR Center accepts the leadership of the Department of International Cooperation, MOST at the national level, and the leadership of the Science and Technology Department of Shaanxi Province at the provincial level. An International Advisory Committee (click to see committee members co-chaired by Prof. Glen Daigger, Immediate Past President of IWA, Member of US National Academy of Engineering, and Prof. Jiuhui Qu, Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering has been organized to provide advices to the management and operation of the Int’l AWR Center, and an Academic Committee (click to secommittee members ) chaired by Prof. Nanqi Ren, Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering has been organized to perform academic leadership to the Int’l AWR Center. Besides, a Managerial Committee (click to see committee members ) chaired by Prof. Xiaochang Wang (click to see introduction of Prof. Xiaochang Wang ) has been organized to perform the daily management and administration of the Int’l AWR Center.

The establishment of the AWR Environmental Research Institute (AWRERI) (click to download the brochure) is based on the “strategic cooperation agreement” signed between China Yixing Industrial Park for Environmental Science and Technology and International Science & Technology Cooperation Base for Urban Alternative Water Resources Development (Int’l AWR Center) in December 2015. AWRERI is an international institution combining industry, education and research under the full cooperation between the Int’l AWR Center and China Yixing Industrial Park for Environmental Science and Technology. It is also a branch of the Int’l AWR Center in Yixing City. AWRERI has been established to carry out research work on alternative water resources utilization for sustainable urban development and construction of healthy water ecosystem and water environment security on the basis of the concept of water cycle management for basins or regions. AWRERI aims to provide scientific and technical services to ES&TP for environmental protection, to provide a platform for the development of environmental science and technology cooperation at home and abroad, and to promote the application of new concepts and technologies for environmental protection through academic and technological exchanges, case studies and engineering projects, promoting the transfer of new concepts and technologies to countries and regions to meet their development goals.
